Sustainability

Sustainability

It will be one of the time’s big challenges to secure the environment for the coming generations and we all have a responsibility to develop and reconsider our working processes – also in connection with the building trade.

Approx. 60% of the entire energy consumption and a big part of the water consumption in Denmark can be related to buildings and their daily operation. We want to do a notable effort for a sustainable future and the building area is a good place to start.

Orbicon A/S take this challenge very seriously and offer a concept of sustainable building work, not only to be on a par with the other regulatory requirements for buildings – we also want to show responsibility to society.

Within Orbicon sustainability is

  • integrated in the architecture and function of the building, adapted to the surroundings
  • operating costs considered from the first idea until the building is in use
  • equivalent in economy and environmental consideration
  • a process that takes the customer as starting point and secures the future for the user and the surroundings

Our consultancy sees the sustainability through – all the way through creation of the building until it is submitted.

Sustainability in Orbicon comprises e.g. energy & ressource optimisation of buildings including

  • heating & electricity consumption
  • water consumption and draining
  • treatment of waste
  • contaminated soil
  • indoor climate
  • reduction of CO2-emmission

Orbicon LEED accredited

Orbicon work internationally with sustainability and because of our LEED® accredited employees we can now secure that a project can be LEED® certified. This means that we can help customers who want a liable building. Initially the customers will be American, but there is nothing to prevent Danish customers from having certified buildings since the certifications can be used for buildings world-wide. As there is no similar system in Denmark or the EU it can be the only possibility to make the customer’s initiative on the environmental area visible in connection with their buildings; with regard to new as well as reconditioned constructions.

What is LEED®?

LEED® is an American certification system used within the building industry and the purpose is to advance sustainable building by using a certification.
In North America LEED® is the accepted benchmarking for planning, performance and operation of high performing green buildings. LEED® equips building owners and working people with the tools they need to make an immediate and measurable influence on their buildings’ ability to achieve any given level. LEED® promotes the access to sustainability for the entire building by recognizing the level of five key areas of human and environmental health: Sustainable development of building sites, water saving, energy efficiency, choice of material and indoor climate.

Who uses LEED®?

Architects, real estate agents, facility managers, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, site managers, financial institutions and public authorities all use LEED® to contribute to changing the constructed environment into a sustainable one. State and local authorities all over North America introduce LEED® in connection with public owned and public financed buildings. Federal authorities have taken LEED® initiatives – Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. LEED® projects are coming up in 41 different countries including Canada, Brasil, Mexico and India.
